At the start of a new school year in yet another unfamiliar city, thirteen-year-old Flynn Barnes just wants to keep his head down. After six years of moving from place to place with his mom, standing out has never been an option.
But when the opportunity to participate in the school spelling bee appears – along with a series of mysterious letters sent to their home – staying invisible becomes impossible. As Flynn competes for a chance to rise all the way to the national spelling bee, he must do everything he can to keep himself and his mom in Mayville, Florida… without drawing the attention of the Southern Republic of Texas.
