Hello, everyone! Welcome back to my reaction series! Hope everyone had a great week!

When we last left off, October’s parents gave their blessing for October and his friends to go on an unnecessary suicide mission to track the intruder on a road trip!

What fun, right?

Let’s continue Chapter 2, shall we?

The rest of us went off to get our luggage.

“Oh, I almost forgot to check the mail,” October declared. He walked outside in the warm air and opened the mailbox. Inside was a plain, unwrapped fortune cookie.

“A fortune cookie?” October, puzzled but unmoved at the prospect of a new piece of the mystery, thought to himself, “Cool! What’s the fortune today?”

He opened the fortune cookie and unfolded the small, thin slice of printed paper that was inside. It said:

Be careful in your steps.

Lucky Numbers:

4, 1, 14, 7, 5, 23

“Be careful in your steps? Why would….?” October gasped. “My lucky numbers……they spell DANGER!”

Nice code, but the decoding processing should have been slower.

By this time I, along with Chase, the rest of the team arrived with their luggage.

“What’s wrong?” Chase asked.

“My fortune cookie said to be careful in my steps, and my lucky numbers spell out DANGER!”

“Gosh, October,” George (who was clearly recovered from the nervousness of the explosion that happened just hours ago) commented, “that’s some fortune. You’d better pack.”

“Yes, give twenty minutes to pack…and think,” October replied. “Wait here, and load your luggage into my car!”

As October got his luggage and began packing clothes, he began to ponder about the preposterous fortune. Did it have to do with the trip?

“I wouldn’t be surprised if the intruder sent it,” October reflected, “but since when does he make fortune cookies? Is it a small warning or mild threat?”

He finished packing his clothes and went downstairs.

Then he went outside and loaded his luggage into the car, and they all went into the October’s convertible. George sat in the passenger seat.

WHY DIDN’T OCTOBER SAY GOODBYE TO HIS PARENTS?!

October drove toward Hartford Avenue. He was about to make a turn when on his right side, walking up the street was the intruder!

“There’s the intruder! George, take the wheel!”

Before George could say anything, October was already out of the car, rushing toward the sidewalk, toward the stranger. The stranger saw everything, and began to walk faster, keeping his composure so he wouldn’t make a scene.

WHAT THE CLOB ARE YOU DOING, OCTOBER?!

“I can’t lose him now just when I’m so close!” October declared. He turned toward Fourth Street where there was a nearby intersection.

“Where did he go?” October wondered, eying a nearby mall intently. He crossed the street and walked to the mall.

He then ambled into the mall, incognito. He began acting as though he was shopping around into he food court, looking for lunch.

“This will confuse that murderous intruder,” October decided.

WHY DO YOU WANT TO CONFUSE HIM? I THOUGHT YOU WANTED TO CATCH HIM!

October looked around, looking for something to buy.

He decided the food section was not what he was looking for. So, he left and scanned around for the clothing section.

An arrow pointed to the left. He had only walked for a few minutes when he saw something suspicious.

“Now I’m getting somewhere,” October murmured excitedly.

“I’m not imagining something,” he told himself, “but I could’ve sworn I saw the intruder.”

October stepped closer to see. He wasn’t sure.

“I must be seeing things. I’d better be on my guard.”

October kept walking toward the clothing section.

He saw a hat, displayed in the distance. October went to pick it up and studied it. It was dark-colored with printed red lines in the front of it.

October put it in his bag and promptly went to the checkout line. After half-hour, he left the mall.

He never found the intruder.

Still, his new hat was marvelous.

A CLOBBING HAT is getting a better description than our antagonist. Really let that sink in, ladies and gentlemen.

Quickly walking back to Hartford Avenue, where he had started in the first place, October checked the sidewalk to look for clues. He found five stamps laying on the ground.

“Five stamps?” October looked confused. “Did the intruder leave these? Why would the intruder drop stamps? Where are the envelopes?”

October had an idea. “They were probably ripped off. When we get to Lark Cowl, I’ll be sure to try to find them.”

He put the stamps in his pocket and walked back to the convertible where he loaded the bag with his new hat into the trunk. He then took the wheel.

“Did you catch the intruder?” Chase asked.

“No, but I found five stamps,” said October.

What a great consolation prize.

“That’s funny,” George remarked. “There’s no mailmen on Hartford Avenue. Are you thinking that the intruder dropped it?”

“I’m on to something, George. They might have been ripped off.”

“The question is,” Chase asked, “is that where the envelopes are?”

“That’s what I’m trying to figure out,” October remarked. “This puzzle is getting more confusing by the minute. First dynamite, then a fortune cookie, now five stamps with no envelopes on it? You’d think you’d count on a person to make sense.”

Try looking in a mirror, October.

“And gosh, what a weird way to warn somebody! Does anyone have a clue of what these things mean?” Aidan commented.

No one answered.

What do you think of the fortune cookie clue? And why do you think October didn’t say goodbye to his parents? Share your theories below!
