Hello, everyone! Welcome back to my reaction of my own novel the Secret of the Old Factory, where I am going to react to the final part of Chapter 2.

October and his friends had just left Mayville after the disastrous events of last chapter.

Let’s get into it, shall we?

SCENES WITH COMMENTARY

October drove toward a highway.

WHY ARE YOU NOT GOING TO A POLICE STATION?

“It’s strange that he appeared and disappeared so quickly,” said October.

“It’s more than a coincidence,” George added.

“And how!” October said. “It happened on the same day but not the same hour.”

After driving for hours, they became hungry.

“Let’s stop,” George suggested.

October got off the road, and by doing that, arrived in Ridgefield, Florida.

“Oh, there’s so many diners and restaurants!” David remarked. While everyone was hungry, David was the one who was always hungry.

“For Pete’s sake, David, calm down! You act like

Ridgefield’s a buffet!” shouted George.

“To David, everything is a buffet!” Chase gibed.

“Oh, look at all these places to eat! How about some

ice cream?” David asked.

“What a classy choice,” George remarked. “I hope it’s not too…sugary!”

“Oh, a little sugar couldn’t hurt anyone,” I countered

indifferently.

I disagree.

October turned toward the ice cream shop, but just as

he was about to park, George cried out, “October, look!”

October was taken aback. “Look for what?” He was confused.

George pointed toward the edge of the ice cream

shop. The intruder was there!

“He must have been traveling for miles, but how could

he know we were going to be here?” said George.

“Well, he doesn’t look too suspicious,” October said.

In disbelief, George countered, “How could you say

that, October? He’s obviously up to no good!” George

protested. “Please tell me you’re suspicious too, aren’t

you?”

What kind of bass-ackwards stupid conversation is this?

October had mixed feelings about the question. There

were still questions about the motives of the intruder,

and also understanding of George’s concern. Although he couldn’t bring himself to admit that George was right, in his mind he knew George was right as the day was bright.

Besides, how could have the stranger gone all the way from Mayville to Ridgefield?

In fact, October wasn’t sure if the stranger lived in

Mayville or Ridgefield.

“Boys, let’s follow that stranger,” October finally said.

“Follow him?”

“Yes. I have a feeling he’s up to no good, as George

said,” October explained.

After October turned off the engine of black convertible, they silently crept out of the car. They were still hungry but remained quiet.

We tiptoed toward the stranger, and suddenly he whirled around in a fury!

“What’s going on here?” the stranger demanded harshly.

THAT’S WHAT I WANT TO KNOW!

We retreated toward some nearby bushes to avoid

being seen. Clearly, it didn’t work.

“You boys had better not be following me!” the stranger

raged, waving his fist. Then, he strode off and disappeared into the crowd.

“Leapin’ lizards! We lost him!” October exclaimed while spitting leaves out of his mouth.

“We’ll get him next time, but he’ll probably be hard to

get,” George remarked.

Guys, my stomach is rumbling louder than a whopping

earthquake from Illinois to California,” I said.

“Jumpin’ Jupiter!” October exclaimed.

“We’ve been so busy trying to spy on the stranger that

we didn’t eat!”

“I’ve been trying to tell you guys, said David.

“Let’s take the drivethru,” George suggested.

They got their dinner, and upon eating in the car,

continued the trip quickly.

“That’s the third time we’ve seen him!” Chase

exclaimed. “Are you sure it’s not a coincidence?”

“To tell you the truth…” October admitted, “…maybe

it is. A coincidence is two or more events or circumstances

that happen at the same time but has an apparent

connection.”

Suddenly, the phone rang.

“October Johnson speaking?” he called.

“October, this is Mrs. Geiger from the Flag Store,” the speaker said.

“Where are you?” October asked.

“In the town of Ironside,” Mrs. Geiger said, and hung

up.

“Good night!” Chase exclaimed. “That’s 638 miles away from Lark Cowl!”

“According to my GPS, it’ll take nine hours and fourteen

minutes!” George called.

“Don’t worry,” October said.

I’M GOING TO STOP COMMENTING AND JUST LET THE REST OF THE CHAPTER PLAY OUT UNINTERRUPTED.

We exited toward Alabama.

Late in the afternoon we reached Ironside and got

directions to the Flag Shop.

“I’m so glad you came,” Mrs. Geiger said in relief. She

was a blond-haired woman in her twenties. “There’s a

misprint on one of my flags.”

She pointed to an Alabama flag.

“It’s in the wrong pattern,” she explained. “It just came

in today.”

“What time did it came in?” October asked.

“Three-o-clock,” the woman replied.

“That’s when he was in Mayville!” October exclaimed.

“Then that flag must’ve been delivered from your

town. Thank you for your help.”

For the rest of the day they stayed in Ironside. The

next morning, the boys drove as fast as October’s black

convertible could go.

“Hold on, let’s stay in New Orleans!” October said.

They went toward New Orleans and stayed there

overnight.

They camped out on the side of the road where we the

boys went to sleep. It was a long day. Still, October stayed awake, thinking. The message of the fortune cookie, the stamps, and now the mystery of the flag delivery. There was too much to think about for sleeping.

The next morning, they left and continued toward Texas.

“Hypers, isn’t this place lovely?” George exclaimed.

“And how it is!” I added.

“I wonder if bluebonnets grow near here!” Aidan remarked.

“Duh, bluebonnets are the state flower of Texas!” I

exclaimed, as I rolled my eyes.

Aidan shrugged the comment off.

October was both tired and excited. Still, he sensed danger.

“Don’t be silly,” October chided himself. “Besides, it’sa normal road, and I strongly doubt there’ll be any unsafe people on this road!”

October hadn’t slept in nearly two days and at the very last minute, realized that he was that dangerous person. As he slowly fell asleep at the wheel, George suddenly cried, “October, look out!”

October jolted up in horror, and a man was in the way!

It was the intruder…again!

“Oh, my Toledo!” he said. “We’re going to crash!”

October quickly dodged the man, then parked and got

out of the car.

“Hey, what’s the big idea?” he asked in a fury.

The man flailed his arms and scowled. “Get out of here…quick!”

October interrupted, “Get out? But why? Listen, I’m

here to solve a mystery and…”

“I mean it, stay out of Lark Cowl if you value your life!”

After saying this, the man ran off.
