📅 10-Day Writing Recap: November 1-10

Hello, everyone! Sorry for the delay in posting this recap, but it’s been a bit of a rough start to November for me. I haven’t made as much progress as I hoped, but I’ve been trying to stay focused and keep moving forward. So let’s dive into the details of my writing journey over the past 10 days.

✍️ Writing Projects

  1. Car Gone Rogue

Progress Highlights:

In the last 10 days, I’ve managed to write 1,362 words for Car Gone Rogue. While that may seem like a modest amount, it was a huge step forward considering how hard it’s been to carve out time for writing. The words that came out were not as fluid as I’d hoped, but they’re there, and that’s progress.

Challenges Faced:

As I got deeper into drafting, I realized that I hadn’t spent nearly enough time planning the story in advance. The plot kept feeling messy, and my characters seemed to drift without clear direction. That’s when I knew I needed to pause the drafting process and refocus on the foundation of the novel. It’s frustrating, but I know it’s for the best in the long run.

Adjustments:

Because of this realization, I’ve decided to extend my drafting deadline. Instead of trying to finish by November 15th, I’ve now set the new goal for December 30th, with a stretch target of November 27th or 30th. Given the pace I’m currently working at, the end of the month feels more realistic.

Next Steps:

Over the next 10 days, I’m committing to planning out the entire novel. I want to map out the main plot points, character arcs, and major themes so that I can focus on writing the actual draft from November 21st to 27th, and then again on November 29th to 30th. I’m hoping that solid planning will make the drafting process smoother and faster.

  1. My Writing Passion is a Candle

Progress Highlights:

I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that I haven’t made any progress on My Writing Passion is a Candle during the past 10 days. Life’s been chaotic, and I just couldn’t get my head into this project. However, I have not forgotten about it! This poem still has a special place in my heart, and I know I’ll get back to it soon.

Next Steps:

Getting started on the second draft, I guess!

📖 Reading Progress

Christine by Stephen King

What Stood Out:

I’ve made a tiny bit of progress with my reading as well. I finished the prologue and Chapter 1 of Christine just yesterday. I’m already hooked by the eerie atmosphere King builds, and I can’t wait to see where the story goes next. The introduction of the characters, particularly Arnie, has already piqued my curiosity, and I love how Stephen King can make even the smallest details feel significant.

Thoughts So Far:

I’m enjoying the psychological tension that’s starting to develop, and I’m especially looking forward to seeing how the car itself becomes a character in the narrative. It’s giving me some inspiration for character-driven tension in my own writing, especially in Car Gone Rogue. I’ll continue reading when I can, though I know I’ll have to pace myself through this one!

🔥 Overall Reflections and Goals

Wins of the Week:

Despite the slow progress, I’m proud of the words I wrote in Car Gone Rogue. Even when life feels overwhelming, getting something down on paper (or screen) is an achievement.

Taking a step back to plan more effectively for Car Gone Rogue feels like a victory in itself. It’s difficult to pause drafting, but I’m confident it will make the process smoother in the long run.

Key Takeaways:

Planning is key. I’ve learned that I need to dedicate more time to planning before diving into writing, especially with a novel. Having a clearer outline and roadmap for my characters and plot will help avoid the messy feeling I’ve been getting.

Don’t be afraid to pause and reassess. Sometimes, it’s better to stop and take stock of what’s working (or not working) instead of blindly pushing forward. It’s a reminder to be flexible with my goals and deadlines.

Next 10-Day Goals:

For the next 10 days, I’m focused on dedicating myself to planning for Car Gone Rogue. I aim to have a detailed outline in place by November 21st so I can move into drafting with more confidence.

I also want to make some progress on My Writing Passion is a Candle—even if it’s just a few pages—to get the ball rolling again.

I want to read the rest of Christine like and like a writer all by the end of the 20th.
