Hello, everyone! Hope everyone is doing well and having a great week!
Where we last left off, October, his friends, and Jake’s friends, for some strange reason, were pushed off a trapdoor.
Let’s find out what happens next.
They struck to the ground with a thud.
October was the first to get up. “Is everyone all right?”
The rest of them got up.
Wait wait wait. You’re telling me not one person was injured because of the drop?
Not even the teachers, who have to be way older than October and his friends?
“Yeah, I think so,” George said.
“Where are we?” Mrs. Gridbes asked.
We were in a large underground cave. Stones and rocks scattered separately.
Wow, what a great description.
“Hello?” October called out.
“I don’t think there’s anyone in here except us,” Chase announced gloomily.
“That’s just lovely. Oh, my rats in a trap! I should have listened to you, Aidan! I’m sorry!” October exclaimed apologetically.
Oh, wow! October actually apologizing to Aidan for his impulsive actions? That’s great maturity that might be a little too early in this point of the story.
“What matters now is getting out of here,” Aidan replied.
“I don’t see how that’s possible,” October remarked, “…but I guess we can try. All we need to do is use our resources.”
What resources?
Mrs. Gridbes smiled. “We have plenty of resources, but how can we use them to get out of here?”
October remarked that perhaps we needed to find the resources before talking about how to use them.
Then why did you say that you needed to use resources that you found?
“That’s not hard,” George said. “This cave is so large… we’ll find it in no time.”
“That is, if we do,” I chimed in abruptly.
The cave was so large and bulky in size and shape. It felt tight to them, but it really wasn’t that tight.
Again, great description.
“Boy!” October looked around in excitement. “You could fit a treasure in here.”
“Could the workers of Subway know that the cave was under there?” George wondered.
Gee, I wonder if that’s the case. I hope you and your friends ask them this question after you get above surface.
October had another theory. “Or it could be a hideout of the intruder.”
George shook his head. “That doesn’t make sense. Why would he pick an underground cave? And how would he get out?”
“I think we’ll find out both questions either now or later.”
I hope so.
George sighed.
“Guys, look at this!” Aidan called out.
“A book!” George cried out.
“Techniques of Getting Away With Something,” Chase remarked.
“Seriously? That’s the title? David sighed.
“The intruder was probably reading it,” October speculated. He opened to page four where there was a sentence highlighted in yellow.
“He was writing in here,” October remarked. “Hmm, this looks interesting: ‘Unknown places is a way to hide.’
“Oh! So that’s why he picked here!” George exclaimed. “He followed what the book said.”
What kind of BS clue is this? This doesn’t tell the readers anything they don’t already know!
October wrote the note in his notebook, hoping his Super-Computer would analyze it.
“Look! I found a way out!” Aidan pointed to an exit.
WHAT?! ALREADY?! Why do you keep doing this, younger me?
And why are you telling the reader that they found what they were looking for instead of, I don’t know, showing what the clob they’re looking for?!
“Hot diggety!” yelled George.
“Let’s get out of here!” October exclaimed.
It wasn’t that easy. A carousel blocked their way.\
There’d better be a good explanation or payoff for this.
“Hey, what gives?” October cried out.
“Well, we might as well get a ride,” George said.
The teachers left quickly, but the rest of them climbed the merry-go-round.
This is inconsistency on two levels.
First of all, I thought the carousel was blocking their way of their exit, yet the teachers were somehow able to leave. How?!
Second of all, why did October and his friends think it’s a good idea to find a carousel in AN ABANDONED UNDERGROUND CAVE?! Shouldn’t the focus be getting yourselves and the teachers out of there safely?!
THE EXIT IS LITERALLY RIGHT THERE, APPARENTLY!
At first it spun at a slow speed, then gained momentum. Then, it began spinning violently, and started to float high into the air.
HOW?! Younger me, did you forget that you’re writing a mystery book and not a fantasy book?
“What’s happening?” cried Chase.
“The merry-go-round, it’s floating! ”October cried.
“What were we thinking!” cried Aidan.
“Jumpin’ catfish!” George exclaimed. “Now what do we do?”
“We can’t jump down,” October said. “You have those parachutes?”
“You bet!” they chorused.
“Quick, pull the rip cord!” October commanded.
We pulled the rip cords on our parachutes and dropped down carefully on the ground.
MISS. ME! THAT WAS NOT ESTABLISHED AT ALL IN THE PREVIOUS SEVEN CHAPTERS!
“Oh my gosh, that was a close one,” October said.
“Oh, golly!” Chase exulted. “It’s so good to smell fresh air!”
Wait a minute! I just realized something! I never wrote which exit they got out of the underground cave?
I COMPLETELY SKIPPED OVER THAT PART?!
OH, THIS IS BEYOND MOTHERCLOBBING EMBARRASSING!
“And how!” October added.
“Let’s get back to the hotel,” George said briskly. “Oh, I’m dying to get into that pool!”
“As always,” David said teasingly whereupon George gave his cousin a black look.
WHY THE CLOB IS THAT THE FIRST THING YOU ALL ARE DISCUSSING AFTER YOU GUYS AND OTHER PEOPLE FELL OFF A TRAPDOOR, WENT THROUGH A CAVE, FOUND A CLOBBING CAROUSEL THAT FLOATED FOR SOME STRANGE CLOBBING REASON…?!
I can’t…I CLOBBING CANNOT!
On the way back to October’s car, October remarked, “You know, Aidan was right about our situation being a trap.”
Gee, you clobbing think?
“Man, I wish I had eyes in the back of my head,” George said. “Hypers! Why didn’t I see what was coming?”
“No one did,” October assured George, “but nobody’s perfect.”
Sure, keep telling yourself that, October.
Suddenly October gasped. His black convertible had been spray-painted!
Here is where Chapter 8 ends and below is where Chapter 9 begins:
“My car has just been spray-painted,” October said angrily.
Ok, I find it very convenient that the spot that they exited the cave from and their surroundings (which was not described at all) just so happened to be near their car they found quickly.
How the clob is that possible?
They examined the car. Nothing was broken, but it was completely spray-painted. October couldn’t get into the driver’s seat!
I feel like this must be an incomplete sentence or typo of some kind because—not that I have any experience with this, mind you—I’m pretty sure that’s not how spray paint works!
“This is rotten luck!” October groaned. “Strange that…”
October’s words cut off as he spotted a piece of paper.
“Look what I found!”
“What did you find now?” Aidan asked.
“A piece of paper,” October replied.
“Well, open it up,” Aidan put in.
As we came closer to October, he opened it up slowly, then gasped.
“What does it say?” George asked in astonishment.
October was as grim as a graveyard, and they could tell that what was in the paper wasn’t good news.
The note said:
This is a third warning! Get out of Lark Cowl at once!
“Wait a minute, there’s more on the back,” Aidan said.
AND DON’T FOLLOW ME ANY LONGER IF YOU WANT TO GET OUT OF Lark Cowl…..ALIVE!!!
Instead of a signature, there was a picture of a grave.
CONCLUSION
I hope you enjoyed this reaction! I’ll give you the “WHAT THE CLOB WENT WRONG WITH THIS CHAPTER” SECTION tomorrow in the late afternoon!
Stay tuned!
