I just want to start off by saying that I am very glad that even though my week was busier, academic-wise, thanks to the two exams that I took this week, Wednesday and Thursday, all while not feeling that great, I still managed to get more words (but not more chapters) than last week.
But also I learned and lived the lesson of self-care being self-preservation that a classmate presented in her presentation this week.

WEEK WINS
This week:
– I WROTE ALL SEVEN DAYS THIS WEEK, SO I’M OFFICIALLY AT A TEN-DAY STREAK!
– I finished revising Act 1 of Can You Spell Werewolf, and now I’m in Act 2A, which today I’m going to knock out the rest of it today.
– Yesterday replaced November 4 (1,738) as the highest number of words I’ve written in a day for this challenge so far (1,783).
– I did actually read 2 days in a row this week—both Coldwire by Chloe Gong and The Widow by John Grisham.
A LESSON LEARNED PUT INTO PRACTICE
One of my classes is Academic/Personal Development, and we have to do presentations, which I mentioned that I did mine last week.
But my favorite presentation (and I’m not going to give out her name) I heard was about the importance of self-care being self-preservation in life. And I feel like that was an overarching theme this week:
Tuesday:
The lowest word count day. Not because it was the day before my two exams, but after because I got back to my dorm from my Tuesday Night Fellowship ,showered did an assignment I still needed to finish, I just went straight to my bed.
At 10:00 pm.
That. Never. Happens.
But I started getting sick on that day.
Wednesday:
I skipped coffee. Which is big, because Wednesday is the only day that I drink coffee because I don’t want to get addicted to caffeine.
Thursday:
The day I heard that self-care presentation.
I was allowed to go back to SMU from work early because my parents and my manager could tell that I wasn’t feeling that great. My mom said that I had the eyes of someone that didn’t feel great. And I just want to say that I’m so grateful to them.
Mom, Dad, Mrs. Erika, if you’re reading this, thank you so much. I needed that time off.
And even though, I wanted to go to a psychology talk for one of my Research Methods in Psychology Out of Experience credits.
Which I already did earlier that morning after my Spanish exam by beta-testing a video game called Fling in Hughes-Trigg (which I really wish that I had gotten that experience on camera). I wanted to get two credits.
But I had to say no.
Just like I said no to getting more words on Tuesday after TNF.
Just like I said no to drinking coffee and going to my community group on Wednesday.
I needed to say no.
And that’s the most important lesson that I learned this week: Sometimes you need to say no to something so that you can say yes to your well-being.
WEEK 3 WISHES/GOALS:
- I have two research papers one from Research Methods in Psychology and one for Intro to American Government to Politics due next week on the 23rd and 24th respectively, but my goal is to get them turned in on Friday, so that I can be done with academic work for Thanksgiving break.
- My goal is to get to the 70%-75% range of completion of Can You Spell Werewolf? and the end of Act One and the first arc of A Speller’s Genesis.
- I want to read/listen to my books all 7 days this week.
- And in the spirit of well-being, I’m going to commit to getting more different forms of exercise than usual all 7 days this week.
What about you? What did you learn this week?
What did YOU have to say no to this week to protect your well-being?
Stay tuned!
