If you’re reading this, you’re probably curious on the context of the video you just watched.
So let me give you some.
Over the first half of November, I have been working hard on Version 2.0 of Draft Two of my first ever YA urban fantasy novel and series starter, Can You Spell Werewolf?
I even mentioned in my last post that my goal for that day that I posted was to write the rest or most of the rest of Act 2A ON THAT VERY SAME DAY.
It didn’t happen. I didn’t have the energy or excitement to make that happen.
Saturday still ended up being my highest word count day yet at 2,103 words.
But not because of Can You Spell Werewolf.
It was at the end of that day that I realized something important:
This draft needs more time.
I need more time.
Neither of us deserves to be rushed.
Between the exams and my family that’s coming to town and everything else that is going on, I felt like I needed to give myself more time to enjoy the creation of this story.
So that everyday that I open my document and put new words on the paper feels like a victory, regardless of how many chapters I get done. Regardless of whether or not I get through a full chapter every day.
Because self-care is self-preservation.
That’s why my deadline is now January 16, 2026 instead of November 30, 2025.
I’m not falling behind or running late.
I’m right on pace to enjoy writing this book with clarity, energy, and strength that this book deserves.
What about you?
How can you prioritize self-care this week- creatively, academically, or personally?
