Where I Want To Be In Ten Years As An Author (10th Author Anniversary Celebration)

Post #1 of my 10th author anniversary celebration focused on the past. Post #2, a poem, focused on the present. But it’s finally time to focus on the FUTURE and answer this question: Where do I want to be in the next ten years as an author?

Welcome to my third and final post of the day of my 10th author anniversary celebration!

Post #1 of my 10th author anniversary celebration focused on the past.

Post #2, a poem, focused on the present.

But it’s finally time to focus on the FUTURE and answer this question:

Where do I want to be in the next ten years as an author?

Let’s get into it and conclude this wonderful day strong!

MY VISION FOR THE SECOND DECADE OF MY WRITING LIFE

The way I see it, Publishing Decade #1 was about foundation, learning the things that I didn’t know, finding what really made me excited to write, maturing in my craft, and creating a new rhythm for myself

But Publishing Decade #2 will be about building off what I learned from the previous decade and finally becoming the author that I’ve been dreaming and working towards being.

And one of the ways I plan to do that is by officially launching what I’m calling the Okojie Literary Universe — the OLU, also known as the Okojieverse in January 6, 2026, with my first official project of what will be Phase One being A Speller’s Genesis, one of the two projects that I’m still working on.

The OLU will be a cross-genre speculative fiction universe that will start with protagonists the age of 13 minimum, but will expand to having adult protagonists. This is one of the main differences between my universe and bigger universes like Marvel, DC, or even Image Comics.

Over the next 10 years, I plan to:

  • finish all core OLU series
  • publish multiple novels
  • write companion stories and novellas
  • expand smaller characters into larger stories
  • create bridges between genres and storylines

This is the decade I become consistent, prolific, and intentional.

SIDE NOTE: I do plan to make the OLU a 15-year franchise, each phase lasting 5 years.

And the OLU isn’t just going to live in prose.

I want to expand into visual storytelling:

  • comic books
  • graphic novels

MULTI-MEDIA EMPIRE

Not only do I want to be successful author and comic book writer, but I want to grow into a successful screenwriter and songwriter—for stories and songs for and independent of the OLU.

WHY DO I HAVE THIS BIG AMBITIOUS VISION FOR MY SECOND DECADE OF WRITING?

I want my next ten years to matter.

Not in terms of fame or numbers —
but in impact, in meaning, in the readers whose lives I touch.

Because one of the things that my Auntie Lori once told me three years ago back when I considered giving up being an author was that: Your words touch people.

And ever since then, that’s what I’ve been striving to do.

I want the OLU and any other creative project I write to be:

  • someone’s comfort place
  • someone’s favorite fandom
  • someone’s childhood memory
  • someone’s safe world
  • someone’s inspiration to write their own stories

This is what I want my next decade to be about.

Today marks ten years since I started this journey.
Tomorrow begins the next ten.

If Year 1–10 were about discovery,
then Year 11–20 will be about creation.

Thank you for being here.
Thank you for reading.
Thank you for walking with me through the OLU era.

Here’s to the next 10 years.
Here’s to the stories waiting to be written.
Here’s to the worlds waiting to be built.

Welcome to the Okojie Literary Universe.

This is only the beginning.

Thank you so much for reading my posts today!

Stay tuned for a lot more.
