Hello, everyone! If you’re reading this, I hope you had a good April!
This post will be both my reflection on not just the cancelled NaPoWrimo Diaries Series, my combination of the A-Z challenge and the NaPoWrimo challenge, but also recap of my creative journey this month!
It’ll also include where I want my creative journey to head next month!
Let’s get into it!
NaPoWrimo Diaries Reflection
Did I finish the challenge?
Definitely not! It was because I realized that the NaPoWrimo Diaries series, an acrostic poetic soundtrack, was dividing my creative energy too much when I was already trying to work on the second half of Can You Spell Werewolf? and balance that out with my life as a college freshman!
So I had to cancel! I
I will say that I am impressed that I still wrote 7 poems in one month while working on a novel! That hasn’t happened for me in like…EVER, actually!
I still followed the A-Z challenge on Facebook, even more than I did the NaPoWrimo website! But I fell off of supporting and reading other bloggers and poem-writers’ content!
I definitely plan to do that more in May and next year!
Will I do this challenge next year? I’ll have to see!
CAN YOU SPELL WEREWOLF RECAP?
The first week of April, when I was involved with the challenge, I finished 1 chapter (Chapter 27), but wrote 917 words, the lowest I’ve written in a single week since I’ve started Can You Spell Werewolf?
The second week of April—the same week I cancelled the NaPoWrimo Series—-2 chapters (Chapters 28-29), writing 3448 words.
But the third week of April was the best week, not just of the month, but since I’ve started writing this novel—SEVEN CHAPTERS (Chapters 30-36) and 9,071 words.
That’s the highest word and CHAPTER count I’ve accomplished in one week so far!
Week 4 (April 22-30)—I finished 2 chapters (Chapters 37-38) and 2717 words. I was really hoping I’d make it to Chapter 39, so that I’d have only 13 chapters to write, but 14 is ok too!
So, if you do the math:
TOTAL CHAPTERS WRITTEN: 12
TOTAL WORDS WRITTEN: 17,207 words
I hit the 55k mark for this book, already making this book not only a bit longer than a NaNoWrimo novel, but also the longest rough draft AND book I’ve written…EVER!
READING UPDATE
Aside from the assigned college reading, I didn’t read a whole lot of the books that I was planning for this quarter. This is something that I will also rectify in May!
SO WHAT’S NEXT FOR MAY?
I plan to:
- Read more of the books I was planning to read
- Check out more bloggers
- Finish the remaining 12 chapters or almost 25k of Can You Spell Werewolf
- Start planning out Car Gone Rogue Season 1, if time
- Start posting a little bit more frequently and start working on something special I’m planning for July to the week before Thanksgiving for this blog that will mirror the pace of the A-Z challenge!
I hope you enjoyed reading this and stay tuned for more!
